Ubuntu Blend is our first collaborative roast with Rounton Coffee in North Yorkshire.
The rich-roasted variant is ideal for anyone who likes their coffee strong and punchy.
For those who like a more delicate and refreshing taste, the standard blend will be better.
Set your tastebuds for hints of Blackberry, Chocolate, Toffee and Walnut
This coffee is best consumed within 3 months of roasting (See Best Before Date tab below)
Ubuntu is a word used in the Nguni languages of Africa and can be loosely translated as "I am what I am because of who we all are". It is a lovely way to describe the ability of Fair Trading to change the future of growers and producers in the Global South as we all play our part.
Ubuntu blend combines ethically sourced coffee beans from two, highly regarded cooperatives. 80% of the beans are from the Cocatrel Cooperative in the Tres Pontas mountains of Brazil and 20% are from the Rwenzori Coffee Co in the Rwenzori mountains of Uganda.
In addition to paying a fair price for the beans to the farmers, Rwenzori Coffee Co pay a 40p premium on every kilo of beans bought and Rountons pay a further 60p premium per Kilo.
These premiums are managed through Agri Evolve
Agri Evolve supports over 10,000 farmers and their families. They have provided employment for many builders, suppliers and traded with many local small businesses. From each kilo of Ugandan coffee we buy, 60p goes to ACE2030 projects. Examples include pit latrines for a local school; a water borehole; support for a local organisation providing craft training for young people who have dropped out of school.
Agri Evolve also mentor and support Youth Teams to become independent small businesses, and have contributed to relief efforts following local flooding which destroyed homes and infrastructure.
